In the past, the main surveillance systems seemed to be the closed circuit television system, that broadcast its signal in analog format. The signals did not reach that far, and the pictures would have to be recorded, and then watched at a later date on a video recorder. This was not only a pain, but pictures were not in real time. This system was fine as long as you were at home, however, how about when you are away?

This enables you to monitor your home 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from wherever you are in the world as long as you have an internet connection.

There are a wide variety of surveillance packages around or you can build your own system fairly easily. Cameras should be discreet and blend in with the surroundings and be sure not to scrimp on cost as the clearer the pictures the better.
A host of software is also available if you are creating your own surveillance system. Look out for software that will alert you by phone, text or email when an intruder enters your property. This is very useful if you are away from home for long amounts of time.
Nowadays pictures are much clearer than the old analog videos, and unlike when recording onto tapes, recording pictures in a digital format will retain its quality however many times it is played back. The digital files are also compressed and saved much easier than a stack of video tapes.
There are many advantages to digital surveillance systems and nowadays systems are fairly inexpensive and easy to install and operate.
